On Tuesday, 14 September 2021, the stars of Swiss and international athletics will return to light up the Municipal Stadium of Bellinzona in the unmissable appointment with the Galà dei Castelli. After the great success of the 10th edition, classified as the 9th best meeting of the entire season worldwide by the international athletics federation, top-level competitions and the impeccable organisation which has distinguished the event for years will therefore return to the capital of Ticino.
Among the highlights of the evening in the shadow of the Castles there will certainly be the celebrations for two great Swiss athletes: on the one hand the Ticino-born Ajla Del Ponte, the new indoor 60m European champion and fastest athlete in the world during the winter season, on the other Lea Sprunger from Vaud, who will conclude her brilliant career in Bellinzona, which culminated in 2018 with the European outdoor title for the 400m hurdles and, a few months later, with the continental gold for the indoor 400m.
An athletics meeting to celebrate not only our local champions but also international stars, such as the protagonists of the Olympic Games scheduled in Tokyo a few weeks earlier, or the leaders of the prestigious Diamond League, which will end the week beforehand in Zurich. It is in fact the organizers’ intention to bring great champions of the world scene once again to Italian-speaking Switzerland, as has already happened in recent years with athletes of the calibre of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Justin Gatlin, Sandi Morris or Ryan Crouser.
Scheduled at the end of the season, the Galà dei Castelli hopes to once again be able to count on the maximum support of the public at the stadium, in compliance with the safety provisions in force at the time, involving not just the enthusiasts, thanks to the always appreciated village outside the stadium. For those who will not be able to attend, the live broadcast is confirmed, once again handled by RSI. At the same time, the competitions are expected to be broadcast live on the athletics platform: ubs-athletics.fans.
